If you are looking for a gym with later opening hours,24 hour gymit will probably show up in your search. With over 400 locations across the country, you're sure to find one and wonder if a 24-hour fitness subscription is worth it.
While part of the answer is obvious: if you can't work out until the "regular" gyms close, you need a gym with later hours, but don't be fooled by the name: they don't offer 24-hour service. Many places close at 9:30 p.m. m., with the exception of Super Sport venues which are open until 11 p.m. m.
I've reviewed 24 Hour Fitness and their offers below to help you decide.

24-hour fitness resources
When choosing the right gym, it's important to know what the 24-hour gym offers in terms of equipment, classes, and other amenities.
cardio equipment
Most places have a good selection of cardio equipment. The size of the 24 hour gyms is not as big as the competition. So if cardio equipment is important to you, check out the assistance rate during times you enjoy working out.
Most places have treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines, and stationary bikes.
Weight
If you're interested in bodybuilding, you'll love the options at 24 Hour Fitness. They offer a wide range of free weights and strength training equipment, including resistance machines.
The 24 hour gym weight range can get crowded as the gyms are smaller. So if you focus on this area, be sure to visit during peak hours.
classes
Most locations include group classes with your subscription. Classes range from yoga, HIIT, cycling, and dance classes to name a few.
pool
Joining a sports or super sports gym gives you access to a pool and spa. While they're by no means luxurious, they get the job done whether you want a swim as your cardio machine or relax in a sauna or hot tub.
Other services
Other services included in the 24-hour gym are:
- Basketball courts (sports halls and supercars)
- TRX training zones
- Personal training (extra charge)
- turf training
24 Hour Fitness Membership Overview - What is the cost?
In addition to the amenities, it's important to weigh the cost of a 24-hour fitness subscription. As with most gyms, costs vary depending on the location, the type of gym, and the type of membership you choose.
Costs range from $32/month to $52/month on average. If you only want access to one club, you pay less than if you want access to clubs all over the country. They also have a list of "Regional Clubs" to choose from if you want access to places in your area for a slightly higher fee than club membership.
You obviously pay more for supercar facilities as you get access to more features and more hours.
Unlike most gyms, 24 Hour Fitness offers a monthly contract or a 12-month commitment. If you choose the monthly contract, you pay an initiation fee when you sign up, as well as the first and last month's fees.
How does 24 hour fitness compare?
Since 24-hour exercise isn't your only option, it's important to compare your options. See how 24 Hour Fitness stacks up against other popular gyms.
Fitness 24 hours vs Planet Fitness
Planet Fitness is the "budget" gym in most areas. They're known for their $10 monthly subscription, but when you calculate that, the total cost is $208 a year after fees, or $17 a month for the classic subscription.
See how they compare:
- Planet Fitness requires a 12-month contract. If you cancel early, you will be charged an early termination fee. They also automatically renew your subscription, so keep an eye on the renewal date so you can cancel early if you don't want to continue.
- You can choose between a single club membership ($10/month membership) or a multi-club membership, which costs more but gives you access to all PF locations.
- Planet Fitness charges a $39 initiation fee plus an annual fee that varies by location.
- Planet Fitness is not focused on weights. They do have weight machines, but they don't have a huge selection of free weights.
- Planet Fitness does not offer group classes.
24-hour fitness vs. all-time fitness
Since the name 24 Hour Fitness suggests that they are available 24/7, it seems correct to compare it to Anytime Fitness, which offers 24/7 access.
Fitness at any timehas more than 4,000 locations nationwide and offers 24-hour key fob fitness center access.
See how they compare:
- Anytime Fitness requires a 6, 12 or 18 month contract. You do not have monthly options.
- All new members receive a free starter plan to help you reach your fitness goals.
- All gyms offer 24/7 access with a key fob to take to your local club or a national club.
- Anytime Fitness has a great functional training section dedicated to TRX, ropes, medicine balls, and other strength training options.
What do others think of 24-hour physical activity?
Like any gym, some people love it and others complain that it's part of the territory.
Here's what people love about 24/7 fitness:
- Despite the smaller size of the gym, most people are satisfied with the equipment available.
- Most members also think that the price is fair for what you get, especially since they offer a variety of options and payment methods.
What's not to like about 24-hour exercise? This is what they have to say:
- Most gyms are not open 24/7; they have limited hours compared to what their name might suggest.
- Each gym is independent and independently run, so it's a blessing if you get a "good manager" and location, or one that operates on its own terms and doesn't adhere to typical 24-hour fitness guidelines.

Is it worth exercising 24 hours a day?
If you sign up for 24 H Fitness thinking you have 24/7 access to a gym, you don't. But if you're looking for a mid-range gym with plenty of amenities, you might be in for a surprise.
Find out what kind of gyms are in your area; not all have Sport and Super Sport locations, so see what's available before you decide.
I think the 24 hour workout goes well with your "simple" gyms.planetafitnessand fancy (expensive) gyms like Lifetime orLAFitness.
